Payments are made on this loan the same way any other mortgage would be paid, on the first or fifteenth of every month.  Rates can be slightly higher than a regular first mortgage and can come with lending fees.  Second mortgages are typically given by private lending companies or individuals looking to invest into an alternative product, or investment strategy.
