Private mortgages are loans given to individuals who have difficulty qualifying for a traditional mortgage from a bank, trust company, or credit union.  Private mortgages typically are given by a private company or individual who is looking to invest in an alternative market, as opposed to the traditional investment market (Stocks, bonds, mutual funds, etc).
